Overview

To date, Toray has developed the Inoue Balloon, which is a catheter for use in balloon-expanding valvuloplasty, and has been highly regarded throughout the world. Applying that technology, Toray has now developed the world’s first hot balloon system, in which the interior of a balloon is heated using a radio frequency energy. By utilizing thermal conduction from a flexible balloon, the circumference of the myocardium, which is the cause of atrial fibrillation, can be ablated in a single application without the electrode coming into direct contact with the myocardium.
The system comprises: the SATAKE・HotBalloon® catheter, a radio frequency balloon catheter; the SATAKE・HotBalloon® generator, a dedicated radio frequency generator; and the TRESWALTZ® a deflectable guiding sheath.
The balloon is guided to the area around the targeted pulmonary vein using a deflectable guiding sheath, the balloon is inflated with a diluted contrast medium and then pressed against the tissue, and the interior of the balloon is heated by the radio frequency energy generated by the radio frequency generator.
